Hosting plans differ in space, bandwidth, features offered and price. Clients can select any package depending upon his requirements and budget. There are various other hosting plans which have a different kind of setup and functionality.
1) Shared plans :- They are just like Shared accounts which are created on a Physical Dedicated server. These are generally used by people who are new in Hosting or do not have much requirements. They do not have a root access, so a user cannot install any 3rd party application on it.
2) Reseller plans :- Reseller plans are just like Shared plans but they have a additional feature that they can be reselled further. They also do not have a root access, so a user cannot install any 3rd party application on it.
3) VPS servers :- VPS is a Virtual private server. Its created or setup on a single Physical server or a hardware node. It uses the resources like Space, bandwidth, RAM , CPU and port speed of the main node on which it is setup.
4) Cloud servers :- Cloud server hosting environment makes use of a number of different servers in a cluster to ensure that there will always be at least one server available to cope up with the load on the cluster or to replace a crashed server. The hosting is spread across the entire Cloud and each server is generally assigned to perform a single task meaning that a single cloud hosting account will never be relying on an individual server in the cloud hosting environment. So this architecture offers a 100% uptime to the customers.
5) Semi-Dedicated servers :- Semi-Dedicated servers are setup using the same technique used for VPS's. The main difference is just that there are less number of Semi-Dedicated server's created on the main node as compared to VPS's. So a Semi-Dedicated user gets more resources to use which ensures a better performance than VPS.
6) Dedicated servers :- A Dedicated server is a physical standalone server which is allocated to a single user. Only a single user is hosted on that server. The user hosted on that server does not share his server resources with any other user. Moreover he has the freedom to install any 3rd party application like any game or any custom application which he has developed locally on the Dedicated server. The user has a root level access to his server, so he can customize the server as per his needs by changing the ports or by setting permissions on the end users. So complete customization can be achieved on Dedicated server.
7) Co-Location hosting services :- Co-Location hosting is different from normal Shared, VPS or Dedicated server hosting. In all these hosting plans, the server hardware belongs to the hosting provider, you just rent some space or entire server by paying the applicable charges. You are not the owner of the server, you are just renting it. In Co-Location services, you own the server hardware and you keep server in some datacenter or with some hosting provider. Here you just need to pay the Rack charges, Power charges and Bandwidth charges. You are the owner of the server in Co-Location hosting.
