You could upgrade to the package that includes mysql - it is twice as much though.

To get round it you would be difficult - there are products available that will use a text file as a database. Have a look at Limbo CMS Portal - Templates, Hacks, Components & Modules for Limbo CMS the Lite Mambo CMS

Personally I would upgrade to a package with mysql and get wordpress as you get much better support

BTW Just noticed that the Home 1and1 includes a Wordpress blog - you won't have much control though.

1and1 actually limit the size of the database too. I can't remember if it was 25mb or not, but its something around there.

Going by my past dealings with them, I'd stay well clear.

I am not necessarily recommending 1 and 1 but I have had site with more than 25MB database on their virtual server.

Yeah, they don't limit their virtual servers - I think the limit is just on the shared plans.

I'll try to dig out some info.

Edit - Its 100mb, not 25mb..
