Rave about 1and1!!! :(

You comment sums up most companies actually, the one with excellent support are not that good with other things, the one that are good at hosting are not that good at customer support etc.

Yep, it is annoying when you have to call these folk. It appears they just make the rules as they go along. If you do not need to call then don't because an easy 2 minute problem could end with you on the phone for 30min, 45 mins etc. Trust me, I know - the experience and pleasure in the early hours of the morning.

Still, as the years have gone by, there is way less need to call them as we get to know their products and how they function.

I'm just moving from one-and-one- but as far as I see not I'm the only one who have bad experiences with them. Our main problem with their hosting package was the speed- in peak hours our site usually unavailable what is a little bit dangerous if your whole business is online.
For my last 4 support request they have not even replied.
Some other hosting: Now I started to move all of our staff to Kingston communications (who bought Mistral hosting). The pre-sales customer service was perfect. Now I have 4 support request without reply. So another fantastic hosting- with a contract including 12 month "initial term".
So I continue looking for a good hosting provider...

Pre-sale at most hosting companies are fantastic, its the support after you become their customer that leave a lot to be desired.

Some people swear by 1 and 1 and others swear at them. This site is hosted on their server, have not had major problems yet but I am not in a hurry to recommend them given horror stories like yours that i have heard about 1 and 1.

Absolutely spot on, it is amazing that they call themselves the No1 host with such poor service - probably awarded by a magazine that they own.
