maybe, he is giving much time to optimize his/her website..
My site is ranked on page 1 of google.co.uk for the terms "trough lights" and "trough lighting" which is good.
The thing I dont understand is why my site ranks below another.
There is a website called troughlighting.co.uk which ranks higher than my site which is trough-lights.co.uk for both the terms above.
I cant see that much difference between the two. They are both using the same ecommerce package. I also think my keywords should be better.
Can anyone sport any changes I should make? or reasons why the other site is above mine?
Thanks is advance.

Contributing factors for SERPs for any given keyword are:
Keywords in domain;
Keywords in page title;
keywords in page file name;
keywords in <h1> tags;
keywords in "alt"
keywords in internal link anchor text;
keywords in backlink anchor text;
keywords in image file names;
CTR from SERPs
content technical quality i.e. W3C compliance;
page load times;
domain age;
quantity of backlinks to site/pages;
quality of domains in which backlinks sit;
age of backlinks;
topical proximity of domains in which backlinks sit;
topical proximity of any domains which appear in outgoing links.
That's all I can think of for now.

Hi,
I my opinion it is just the matter of content. you have not used content on your site whereas second one has used a well formatted content. Otherwise your site should be above that site.

i think you should check the backlinks of your competitor
that's the best way to know why they're on top![]()
Keep building up the backlinks with relevant anchor text, and make sure your on site anchor text is right.
i think you should focus more on the non competitive keywords first where you can rank high![]()
Go to yahoo site explorer, and see which top sites are linking to his website.
Then ask those websites to link to your too.
do some research on your competitors... that way you can do much greater rankings than them![]()
