Some of the sites linking to you may have dropped their links, some of the sites may no longer exist, Google will likely have devalued some of the reciprocal link pages that are linking to you. Link are differentiated in two..long term and short term links. You have been getting/acquiring short term links and Google especially get rid of them in its index after a while. Get links from authority site and they will be with you like a plague forever..lol

Yes reciprocal links from non relevant sites can harm your site, so as domain has stated make sure they are relevant and try to get more non reciprocal links. steer clear of link farms etc.
