If a link sends traffic then it works, if not, then stop paying for it.

But one thing is for sure and thats paid is faster

All topically related links to your site from domains with good strength will benefit your site particularly if you add your targeted key phrase into the anchor text. You should find your SERPs for the key phrase in your anchor text will improve as the search engines find the backlinks.

But if a website cant stand on its own legs, without stuffing keywords into anchor text, then it aint worth anything anyway.

Stuffing anchor text bcos its free, wont work, as websites won't stand for these sad webmaster tricks. I assure you the moment some kid tries this on us, their de-indexed so fast, their feet wont touch the ground.

Free or dirt cheap ALWAYS produces bad results, (unless every website is set up to promote), which they aren't. Websites need to:

    A) Stand on their own, unaided

    B) Promote the sites listed

if it cant do either or preferably both - then its not worth using from a user perspective or as an advertising weapon. SEO is for the very rich, that can afford to do it properly or the poor with no idea, in which case its failure time for most. With only 10 spots available on Google's first page of serps, how can every website fill just 10 spots - its IMPOSSIBLE.

No point in being on page 300, you wont be found. And your either lucky, paying large amounts of cash or doing dodgy things if you get on that first page in a top 3 position for a top keyword.

I wonder why so many SEO experts agree with me that backlinking and the choice of anchor text is so important in improving SERPs.

SEOmoz | Google Search Engine Ranking Factors

As you can see there is an 80% agreement amongst the SEO experts surveryed by SEOMOZ that anchor text has "Exceptional Importance".

The only way to know is to actually test, and advertising does work and it does more for a website than basic seo advice ever will. I had an interesting conversation with a so called 'seo expert', the guy claimed he could get me 4000 visitors a month with seo for £800, I said my site gets that already and for nothing so why should I waste £800, I didnt hear from him again hehe. Proof that SEO is a giant rip off, when I can get my web designer to do it for free.

What would you choose - pay £800 or get the same results for free.

Yeah well, just bcos something is important doesnt mean its fast or effective - there are 'degrees of results' and as you said this seo stuff will only give minimal results. Too many want the easy life, no effort required, no such thing as a quick-fire results gained approach in business, and it takes a bloody long time to get this right.

You stick with your seo keyword stuffing if you like and I'll use the media, and we'll see who gets the most traffic. You will lose every time.

I get hundreds of thousands of visitors every single year and that isnt from expensive SEO where I'd be wasting 20k a year. 20k buys me 7 entire press campaigns lasting about 12 years worth of highly targeted exposure. Nothing on the web can beat that..

There are so many websites that don't pay for marketing and rely on free marketing resources. If the marketing is done effectively. You will surely get the positive results. I have already said that not everyone can afford the pricey marketing campaigns. For such type of webmasters free marketing activities are best.

And, please, i beg you. Stop saying pay for marketing.
