Question new forum in an already crowded niche?

Ok so im going to have one last try at making a sucessful forum, but the niche im thinking about is, Technology.

We would have all the latest news and reviews from various sources, along with topical chat about all kinds of technology, from kitchen appliances to state of the art TV's and Computers.

I have already started to aquire resources for the forum and am planning on contacting some big name brands.

    One question for you guys.

Technology? Is there room for one more forum within this niche or is there no point going any further with this, unless i find a less 'crowded' niche?

Thanks everyone for your answers and replies, all will be read and taken into consideration.

    Jake,
If you will be doing a few things differently from the existing technology forum then there is room for your project.
If you are just going to be another technology forum doing what all the others are already doing, then chances of success is slim.

    Good luck

Thanks Temi, I plan to make the forum a little bit special, compared to all the other forums in the niche.

Snow goose then you have a winning formula. In addition to the unique stuff you plan, have a nice marketing plan up your sleeve and it will be a roaring success.

Forums are usually difficult to get off the ground but once its off, its off! all the best mate.

Remember to announce it in this forum when its ready to launch

What I mean by the marketing plan is that when the forum goes online, you need to let people know its there. Here are a few ways to do that, you can ignore one that you cannot afford.
    1. Write a little text about the forum including pointing potential url to the interesting sections in the forum. Something similar to the one about webmaster serve at this blogs site . Post this at as many forums as possible.
    2. Do the same on blogs, get as many bloggers to help you post about your forum on their blog. (You may have to pay some bloggers for them to do this for you.
    3. Visit as many blogs as possible and comment on topics that relates to the theme of your forum.
    4. Establish your self at a few forums and use your forum name as signature in your profile.
    5. Buy signature links from other forum posters.
    6. Buy some PPC advert from leading search engines.
    7. Build quality related links for your forum.
    8. Submit your forum to quality web directories.

And so on and so on till your forum is well know on the net

Thanks sooo much for all the help you have been providing me with Temi.

I have no money so this will have to be done on a free host etc untill i get capitol to fund hosting and domain etc, i am hoping to get sponsored by large companies for the funding but my question is. Should i wait untill the forum is up and running on the free host etc and then approach the companies or should i approach them first with my idea and wait for their feedback?

Which do you think would be best?

    Thanks again Temi
