Hacking Templates and Scripts

Do you ever find yourself having to hack someones PHP or javascript
to make it work for you? What I do is search for a plugin or script
that does what I've been wanting to do for a site, and then begin to
hack at it to make it personalized. But for some, it may be easier
to just continue looking for that "perfect" script.

The way I look at it, it's easier sometimes to be effective than to
be original.

So what do you do...tweak it or search for another?

hacking is not nice thing!
If u like a design, template, script, first ask the owner...

Once upon time... so i look a perfect snow effect on a little site (its not buggint, not slowy, now slowing the browser / machine) and i like download it. But in under CC (creative common licenc). So i ask first the owner, and happy time!!! He add for me this script free, and attach a dev-suite too.

So i think, the best thing first the asking...

if there offering it as a free download eg a wordpress theme of course your gonna have to hack it to pieces to get it perfect.

It its just a line of code - noone owns code so you can do what you like to it!

I prefer hacking codes. I started this with the indescript, because i didn't know better free web directory script that time and the default package was not good enough, so i started to implement a lot of custom hack. The site was totally reindxed two times as far as i remember and i learned a lot from that.

Oki. Talk about hacking.
I mean the base / general hacking is bad. Its just stoling (in technical view its very hard and good ) but not good thing. (for the original - author view).
If this hacking is bugfixing, and other new functions - i mean its a preferable thing
