Cautioned for nicking Internet Access

On the radio today, I learnt that two people from Worcestershire were cautioned by Police for "stealing Internet Access" they logged into someone else's Wi Fi broadband and surfed without the owners permission.

Interesting - I guess they were reported to the police by the owner of the Wi Fi.

So... if they have only been cautioned for steeling internet access then if I plug in to BT's cable without paying and the knowledge of BT can I count they will only warn me if they catch me?

I have reported this post to Scotland Yard, they will be watching every move you make Robocop just in case you decide to start nicking power from the grid
