The Google Vs. the Department of Justice Conflict Continues

The document with the official refusal to turn over to the American government data regarding the search queries carried out in one week recently received a response from the Department of Justice.

The American institution denies the data would jeopardize in any way Google users’ privacy and accuses the search engine of hindering the efforts to protect the children from online pornography.

In the document filed by Google, the lawyers rejected the government’s decision, writing that this would undermine the users’ trust in Google’s ability to keep private
the information and that it would burden the company.

“Google users trust that when they enter a search query into a Google search box, not only will they receive back the most relevant results, but that Google will keep private whatever information users communicate absent a compelling reason. The Government's demand for disclosure of untold millions of search queries submitted by Google users and for production of a million Web page addresses or "URLs" randomly selected from Google's proprietary index would undermine that trust, unnecessarily burden Google, and do nothing to further the Government's case in the underlying action," the Google document said.

The DOJ says that this subpoena would not constitute a burden for Google’s engineers and that the other companies complied without too much trouble.

According to CnetNews, the document filed on Friday concluded that it’s the government’s right to obtain the necessary information and requested the court to give the company 21 days to turn over the data.
