Default Microsoft Developer Conference Focuses on Vista, Office

This year's conference for Microsoft developers has brought announcements relating to platform advancements and application development. In his keynote, Gates spoke about advances in the upcoming Windows Vista system as well redesigns for Microsoft's widely used Office software bundle.
Announcements at Microsoft's annual Professional Development Conference have set the tone for the year ahead with a strong focus on how the Windows platform is changing.

Two years ago, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates unveiled several initiatives that are still in the works, including the new operating system once code-named Longhorn. He also discussed potential new components of the WinFS file subsystem, which sparked discussion and controversy among developers.

This year's conference, being held in Los Angeles, has brought announcements relating to platform advancements and application development. In this year's keynote to developers, Gates spoke about advances in the upcoming Windows Vista system as well redesigns for Microsoft's widely used Office software bundle.

On the Platform

Unveiled at the conference was the Windows Vista Community Technology Preview program, an information clearninghouse that will bring together customers and partners in the early stages of Windows Vista development.
