Default How do i get .edu and .gov links?

Does anybody have any suggestions or tip on how to gain .edu and .gov links. I'm finding it difficult to get them.

    Thanks in advance.

Not .edu, but I've managed to bag myself a couple of .ac.uk links (which must be similarly liked). How? Well, I attended university and friendly with a few of the PHD students there, who link to my stuff. Plus I'm still active on the forums of one of their clubs.

.edu sites can have forums on them, so it may be worthwhile doing a search for them, as well as .edu blogs (whilst I was in university, I hosted my blog on my .ac.uk domain name. For one there was a hell of a lot of space for the time, the second was that it was so easy to set up).

However my advice is not to worry about them too much. I generally think that - unless you know where to look and you have mates in high places - it's pretty much a fruitless search.

If your content's good enough, and relevent, then governmental/education sites will find and link to you (specially techie articles - they usually get referenced in papers. My university put my thesis online for a year, so all the links I talked about got some nice PR juice).

I get on the telephone, speak to the person running the websites, and ask them! If your content is good then they will have no problem citing you via a link.

    Yes, i agree with OldWelshGuy.

But you can also search google for any blog or forum installed on a .edu domain and check if you can post / comment.

Yes, they are free (we manage a couple of .gov.uk sites), but you try getting something like "casino-bonuses-and-viagra.ac.uk"

yes, .edu and .gov links are like solid gold ... because they don't tolerate crappy links ... so, step 1 ... create a high quality site ... otherwise you'll get rather frustrated ...

If you are looking for a link partner under those domain you can look
for it through the use of this .gov + "category" or .edu + "category"
    that will broad your search..
