Default whats the best way to market different products

I have been tasked to try and create a decent system whereby we can promote products that we offer on a "rolling" basis, so that I can plan campaigns over a given time period, as we will be getting in specialist sales people for these campaigns.

The 2 systems I have looked at are..

Subdomains
productname.companysite.com
and the only page on there would be purely about the product itself and all the links will go to the main site.

Landing Pages
productname.domain.com
and the only page on there would be purely about the product itself and all the links would go back to our "true" company site.

I must point out that I am fairly new to all this...

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Did you think about: companysite.com/productname/ ?

This way you have to promote one domain instead of two...

we currently use a dynamically driven back end so that pages end up as product.php? etc etc and I have read that google amongst others doesnt like those...

We cant change over to static urls via url rewriting as we have to use windose servers...

thats why we were looking at other methods, also we might start making these items an "annual" campaign as it were...

but thanks for the suggestion..

Getting your urls rewritten is the best way to generate static urls, that will make your products more SEO friendly.
Another way Google used to recommend is that you create static pages for each product or category and point it to the dynamically generated equivalent, this will involve a lot of work if you have many products so the best way forward is url rewrite.

but i thought you werent allowed to submit specific urls to google anymore, i thought you had to only submit the toplevel nowadays...
or have I been reading in the wrong places...

god this is all sooo confusing for newbies...

i thought because we cant submit specific urls (in case its classed as spamming) so we were going to be buying up domains that our related to our product range... or the subdomain approach..

is it best to manually submit to the search engines or use a product... I have heard good things about IBP and web position gold.. any thoughts?

I am not saying submit specific url, here is an illustration what I am suggesting:

YourDomain . com/index
YourDomain .com/index/product1?3arseounfriendlyurlaafad8aa9AFDAF88+9()30 ^.PHP

Create a static page called yourdomain .com/productA.php and link this to non seo friendly url:
YourDomain .com/index/product1?3arseounfriendlyurlaafad8aa9AFDAF88+9()30 ^.PHP

So, its just linking within your own domain.
