PR means nothing, Ive seen good websites with low PR and crap ones with high PR. All it means is they went out and got a load of links, but a collection of links doesnt mean a site is good. Nor does it mean it delivers.

So if your site isn't recieving so many new backlinks and the age of the existing backlinks is increasing then your page rank will fall.

However, as Highlander says, don't get hung up on pagerank.

The first part of your sentence is right " if your site isn't recieving so many new backlinks"... PR may drope

But the age of backlinks, the following rules are there

1. If the backlinks from forum signature,blog commenting,article directories ,what you said is true. As the posts archived the value of the links from them will be diminished.

2. But direct links from home pages.... As the age of the link increases the google trust on the link increases.


Possible reasons for PR drope

1. Possible Google Penalty

Big G may find the presence of links to bad neighbors,link firms etc

2. Some of back link provider removed the links

3. Most of the backlinks archived

4. Possible algorithm change

No its alright thanks - I dont use or need crappy Alexa, as everyone on earth knows its open to manipulation and thus never accurate.

Please suggest as to what is the measure of quality of a site , if PR or Alexa are not worthwhile

Have you removed any pages from your site? This also can be a reason for page rank fall.

In order for your site to have the same PR value of have higher chances to get higher PR , you need to get tons of back links.. Back links with the same niche..

In my own vision.. PR falls because of lack of promotion.
There is no enough backlinks to support your site.
