Hi everybody
![]() I have been researching Google's Supplemental Index for a few days, and seen it's effect on my sites. One site has quite a high proportion of their pages within the supplemental index, as I noticed recently that one of my sites has quite a large percentage of links in the supplemental index. This has also meant that the pages linking to it (such as the index page) has been hit, and as such my site has all but disappeared from the serps. Anybody have any idea how to get out of the supplemental index? |

How are you finding out what pages are supplimental since Google no longer openly displays them? There are some 'methods' but none are truly reliable
![]() Answer me that one, and I will tell you how I have handled it in the past. ![]()

I use a tool I found on SEObook:
Supplemental Index Ratio Calculator I've been preparing for it, producing a lot more unique content on a few sub pages, but I can't really understand why the index page of the site in question was affected ![]() |

I know Aaron has linked to it, but I don't think that works. i would seriously question its reliability, especially if an index page is being reported as supplimental. More likey there is a penalty of filter kicking in somehow.

Thanks OWG.
I know the tool wasn't horrendously reliable and I wasn't taking it as gospel, I'm just a little concerned. I was ranking pretty well with my chosen terms until last week, then I just disappeared (languishing on page 10 now). Unsure exactly why - the only thing I can think of is that there's duplicate content somewhere as it shares a central database with a number of sites (but the records on this one are unique), and there are a few unique articles, so I've ruled that out. I thought it was the supplemental index as the amount of pages getting indexed was getting lower and lower. Maybe it was disregarding the pages in question?!?! |
