Des,
It certainly can be done. I will find a graphic manipulation expert who can explain this to you shortly.

Afternoon all,
Please excuse my limited knowledge on creating web graphics but I'm trying to find out if it is possible to create an image with 50% opacity for the web.
I'm using CSS positioning to create a number of layers of images each of which should be able to show the layer beneath, slightly. I can create the effect in photoshop but can't maintain the opacity when I save the file.
Any suggestions or even a simple 'can't be done' would be appreciated.
Cheers, Des

Hi,
Save As the image on GIF format with transparency.
Misi
I've tried that and it loses its opacity. I've put up a couple of screen shots to show what is happening. The top one is what I'm trying to achieve with the grey box showing the red squares through it (screenshot taken from photoshop). The bottom image is after saving the image as a gif and putting it into IE. (It loses its opacity and becomes solid grey :-(

I can get the image to be transperant or solid but not halfway in between.
