Hey.

My website is redlinemaxed.co.uk

I have been recently trying to do things to improve my google page rank. as its only a couple of months old, i do realise that a rank of 0 is normal but i am trying to get everything there so that when the site is out of the sandbox it has the best chance of doing well.

One way to improve rank is to add lots of content. however, what type of contect could i be adding. i have added a few faq's but as its a retail website, i arent sure what type of content to add.

Adding contents to a site is brilliant but to gain PageRank you need to get links from sites or pages that already have good page rank

So you may want to start looking for link exchange partners or buying links with good PR to point to your site.

i have been looking through google for any possible complimenting sites and have emailed loads of webmasters but arent having much success. i cant seem to find many sites that are similar to my own that have decent page ranks either

Even if you find sites that are similar to yours, they may not be too keep to link to you just yet, perhaps till you get a PR. Here are two quick steps that I am sure will help you:
1. post enough to this forum so that you can add your site to you signature, that would give your site a about pr3 or pr 4 links, (have a look at Melkies profile for exaple, its PR4: http://forums.ukwebmasterworld.com/members/melkior.html
2. Regularly look at the directory section, you will see people advertising free inclusion in their directory, add your site to as many directoires as possible
3. Post in the exchange forum and ask for link exchange partners

ok, ill work on those things you said thanks for your help!

i didnt realise that sigs on forums could help as i assumed all topics would have a PR of 0 as they would have few inbound links.

Just out of interest, i set up a myspace to try and advertise the site. i ahrdly go on it but noticed it has a PR of 5. Its really annoying how a page with no effort can get 5 and i am putting lots of effort into the main site but arent getting results.

However, i didnt realise forum posts help but do now so will use that to my advantage. does it work the same if for example, i use a banner as a sig?

Perhaps banner will also pass on PR but I am more certain of text links. Banner is good for attracting attentions but for PR and SERPS you want to use text links

brilliant, ill get posting then. Not sure i can do much posting that will be of much use here as i arent really that knowledgeable of html, css, web design etc but will have a go

There are lots of other topics you can contribute to

Content + links needed for ranking. If your content is worth to link from other sites other webmasters can have link of your site and you get link. As temi and others said you can also do that for link building. You can write articles regulariy , post them to many sites, if possible trade articles with other webmasters
