British Hacker to be extradited to US

A British computer expert accused by Washington of the "biggest military hack of all time" lost an appeal on Tuesday against plans to extradite him to the United States to stand trial.
Gary McKinnon was arrested in 2002 following charges by U.S. prosecutors that he illegally accessed 97 government computers--including Pentagon, U.S. army, navy and NASA systems--causing $700,000 worth of damage.
Two of Britain's leading judges rejected a High Court challenge by McKinnon to an earlier court order backed by Britain's Home Secretary that he should be extradited.
"We do not find any grounds of appeal against the decision," said one of the judges, Lord Justice Maurice Kay.

Most hackers like that end up working for the US government. Diplomatic immunity, everything you want until you no longer serve a purpose. Essentially its blackmail.

Perhaps he didn't want to work for them and be better off for the rest of his life?

Well the laws are certainly changing aren't they? It used to be that you would need to physically be within the limits of a country to break a crime in that country. Now you can be convicted of a crime anywhere in the world without ever leaving your house.

IMO, it's the US Gov's fault for not taking the necessary precautions. If anything, they should be thanking this fellow for showing them their faults and allowing them to fix them.
