Default Google Checkout launched

The core of Google's business is selling advertising
Search giant Google has launched an online payments system which aims to compete with auction giant eBay.
Dubbed Google Checkout, the system is designed to boost Google's main source of revenue - selling advertising.

The service offers some free order processing to Google's millions of advertisers, but will initially be available only to stores in the US.

One of the clever things about it is that card details are stored by google, and there's only one login needed for all sites that use G Checkout.

https://checkout.google.com/seller/why.html

(why is it that BBC always link to the google homepage when they launch a new service, not very useful IMHO)

I am not sure storing the card details is a very good idea Rob

They are offering discount to their Adword advertisers, I hope Google checkout is most suitable to their advertisers only at this moment, IMO they have to go long way to compete with paypal though.

I'm pretty sure PayPal does the same thing, just try registering with another credit card and see what happens. I actually had to re-configure my new credit card with PayPal tech support because my old account was directly linked to my old credit card and couldn't be modified without their help.

Of course, this happened about 2 years ago now so I have no idea if it's any better or worse than it was in this case.
