The structure and updating system of the two encyclopedias couldn't be more different from one another. The Wikipedia project lets anyone instantaneously make changes to any existing article, even delete entries, regardless of whether that person has any expertise in the subject, while Britannica, besides having the tradition everyone is aware of, also updates articles without any outsider input.
Still, in spite of these differences, a recent study published by the Nature journal proves that the two encyclopedias offer information just as accurate as the other. That comes as a surprise, especially since Wikipedia doesn't impose any restrictions on its users when the published articles are updated. It seems users have really taken this do-it-yourself project very seriously, as Wikipedia now registers almost 4 million articles.
