3G M-Commerce and all that

Apparently, Vodafone 3G base is growing : news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4259336.stm there was the talk of 3G and M-Commerce taking of in a big way a few years back. I wonder what happend or I'm just not tuned in?
