Tag Clouds - what's the point?

I often see Tag Clouds on websites, but.. what's the point? Are they just a gimick, or are there SEO (or other) reasons for having them there?

There's a Tag Cloud module available in Drupal - would it benefit my site: Guitar String Guide | All you ever wanted know about guitar strings! ?
