Jumping on the firefox bandwagon? um... tabs...yeah...try two years before firefox. Safari and Opera were both tabulated before firefox and thats just from the top of my head

You won't be using vista? So when XP becomes the 95 of the era, you will still be there watching the hamsters inside, turning the wheel of power?

Keep your pirated copy, I'm sure it makes you 1337!

Vista (as stated) requires 256mb of RAM, it just doesn't perform too well in a VM. In addition, it's a BETA and therefore is still unmanaged raw code.
At the point of building a release candidate (RC1+) the code will be compiled as optimised code which will reduce install time and mean that archives will be built and uncompressed on the fly as the OS is run, meaning quicker OS ops.

Anyway.... "i will excercise restraint...."

ya ya, firefox, safari, whatever, they're still jumping on the bandwagon. Funny how you didn't address that point.

nope, not until I can afford 3 gigs of ram to run the POS. Tell me how it's any better then any other OS out there? Because it's more of a resource hog? Because it's got cooler looking transparency? Because "FINALLY tabbed browsing is in IE7!!"? Naw I'll pass.

No offence but are you 12? Comments like these are very narrow minded. I hardly consider having pirated software as making me 1337, I'm just not stupid enough to hand over my hard earned money for an overpriced, buggy OS.

Obviously you don't read my other threads, I am actually an OS 'fanboy' I think that each OS has a valid place to live. My preference for desktop is MAC/XP, Server is Linux/BSD but thats neither here nor there, in short, no I am far from a microsoft fan.

Either make an informed point, or don't bother! I agree that they were not the first, however that wasn't the point originally made, was it?

3Gb RAM? - what planet are you on? You want to know why it will be better? WINFS, far more unix-like and thereby secure. Restricted permissions by default that must then be elevated to wheel access (as in NIX). The tabs (as stated) are on IE7, not longhorn. I think you are detracting from the point

Heh, I am not 12 no and don't worry, I take no offense. Speaking of childishness though, those who feel the need to announce to the world that they run illegal software do not strike me as being mature adults -hence my point-
So, by your own admission.......you would rather pay nothing and have a buggy OS? perhaps you would do better paying nothing and having a very stable os? Flick over to unix, it will be the best software you have never stolen.

So, now what? If you like, I'll give you FTP for mandrake, SuSe, Solaris, NetBSD, FREEBSD, Knoppix, RHL, Fedora, OS2 or, I tell you what, seeing as you don't like expending resources (and paying) I could give you my four dos 6.22 disks.

EDIT - removed a comment I shouldn't have added

And to add: This started off as a thread to show people the new OS, not to get into the endless microsoft debate that really boils down to personal choice. If you want to get into a debate on the merits of the new OS, perhas a seprate thread? I will be happy to debate it with you as I have personal opinions based on usage within the industry.

At the end of the day there's only four key elements that truly matter to me in using any OS:

- ease of use
- security
- ample remaining resources
- stability

If the new Windows OS has these features then I may give it a try. This of course assumes that Microsoft doesn't decide to charge $500 or $600 per license. I ended up purchasing Windows XP Home Edition because I felt that PRO was way too much money for the majority of extra features that I'd rarely (if ever) use.

BTW, I didn't see it mentioned here, but is Vista likely to split up as XP did into Home and Professional versions as well?
