Bet it doesn't hit Cornwall until 2015, but still good news. Whatever happened to that idea of sending it down the powerlines? They were trialling it in Scotland?

Sending it down the power line does not seem to be as viable as it appears to be when the idea was first conceived,

BT are making the roll out conditional on Ofcom allowing it to make some money from its investment.

They (BT) have had something a hard time from Ofcom while the "new" providers have had time to reap the rewards of their investments like Blueyonder / NTL / Virgin Media. Also the telephone exchanges have all been opened up to all and sundry with BT again not being able to share in the increased revenue.

Traditionally BT has held a dominant position in UK telecoms but unless the restrictions are lifted then don't expect ultra fast fibre optics to start any time soon.

Perhaps a better way to say this is that traditionally BT has held monopoly which is now reduced to dominant position. I don't think the conditions Ofcom laid down for BT is not unreasonable.
