Default SPAM Submissions. I am puffed out with them!

I have several directories and to tell you the truth SPAM Submissions are taking over to much of my time.

I have put in place numerous Spam Filters, IP Filters but still they keep coming.

I have even in one instance a FREE directory of course CLAPPED It and rebuilt all the categories and sub-categories, but ask yourself is it worth all the time and effort.

The one SPAMMER category that is starting to break me is VIAGRA.

At the end of each evening I do my washup ie, clearing my directory submissions ect. I am sick of clicking the DECLINE option.

My next step maybe pulling the plug on my directories.

Temi is their a possibility you can you include a SPAM CATEGORY so that members can highlight this WORM.

I know it's not the same but I love comment spammers on my blog because it shows me exactly what they are trying to obtain links for (what they are optimising for)

    Ahh, bring them on!!

We used to share info about directory spammers are the directory forum, just post any info you wish to share there.

BTW, what directory software are you using? most leading directory software tends to have robust spam filter this days.

You may want to stop free submission, I had same problem with a few of my directories, I just disable free submission and that sorted out 95% of the spam.

Do the directories use a captcha? I know some people think captchas are annoying. I think people that want more back links would be willing to fill a captcha in. It blocked 99.9% of my spam whenever I use it on forms.

    I personally like:
    reCAPTCHA: Stop Spam, Read Books

If you know php or know someone who can integrate it in for ya.

    Dear Clangallacher,

Possibly once in iWT forum, I suggested you to use any directory script instead of using your own script.

In your script, you have no validation before form submission - anyone can add any value to any field, you have no Captcha - just a simple javascript can submit thousands of requests in a minute. Spammer are everywhere ... they just want a shortcoming in the script.

If you really want to stop spamming, at least add any captcha script to your submission form ... as see the result.

    hasan_889,

I do remember that post, I will now insert a Captcha.

Good memory that was nearly a year ago I think.

Actually it depends on your need (where you need that).

I have tried captcha at my web directories driven by phpLD but not works well there.

    DON.
