I have no idea how long it took to get in but it was definately under a year. If I had to guess, I think it took between 4 - 6 months because of all the smaller ODP sites that were linking to mine.

just type in "DMOZ Bashing" into google and you'll get loads of threads complaining about these corrupt editors. Hopefully there will be one named and in your category. that said, if you do find one it won't cost $1, more like $500!!!
I wouldn't approach just any editor for fear of getting black listed.
But if you read the things that come up in google then you'll be forgiven for thinking they are all fat cats.

$500 no problems, I am sure the benefit it worth more because of the idiots who keep creating DMOZ clones (I wonder why and directory.google.com is included in this category as it imports DMOZ database).
I was only joking about finding a bent DMOZ editor.

Charging is unethical and probably criminal. I however, see no problem with including a friend's site asap, if it meets the critiria. I mean, what are friends for?

Absolutely Paul. If one of your contacts has a good site, then provided you are not que jumping them in, your doing no wrong. I edit on a few directories, and very often someone will post a link or I will follow a signature link and find a damn good resourse. When this happens I include it in the directories, as that is exactly what an editor should be doing IMO.

Y don't you just post in their forums temi and ask why it's taking so long and add a link? You may get your post edited as I did but at least I was included quickly.
