I still prefer to link exchanged .I have made my blog got some PR I guess because of this type of things. I am not really sure but after few months only get some PR ranking blog.

I don't bother anymore. I read an article somewhere about reciprocal linking being dead and never bothered since then.

Its still very effective in ranking on top of serp especially if you link exchange with old authority sites.

It can build a friendships between two sites...but i do it minimally
