Default PR Differenced can any one explain?

I had a look at our website of the month April's PR and its PR2 but our website of the month for May is PR4.

They both have the same backlink sources, I expected April to have the higer PR but that does not seem to be the case, can any one speculate or explain why this is the case?

I can give you the answer if you like.

    It is this.
The April thread is an actual value, the April thread is a ghost value. Ghost PR is an assumed value that google displays in the toolbar but does not exist.

You learn something new every day, I am hearing this for the first time, I mean Ghost value PR. Thanks for that explanation.

So google actually forcast PR it thinks a page should have before and actuall PR value is calculated?
Is this standard or just happens now and again ?

It used to do it all the time, nad normally the ghost pr would be -1PR value below the structure above it. So if you have a pr5 page with a folder below it, goog would allocate a ghost value of PR4 to the pages within that until they catch up.

That sounds really interesting, though I never heard about the ghost PR. I'm going to read again OWG's PR explanation.

I don't think that post mentioned ghost PR. I have never heard of the concept before either.

You are right Temi, that post doesn't mention ghost PR, but I never was a great PR wizard, but a hardcore fanatics. So I thought reading that again would help to boost my linking tactic a little, and the newer members who read this thread, would also find that useful as a related post.

At one time that is how Google did it all the time. I still see it happening on my rugby forum when I reply to a thread that has been indexed for a while. I hit the reply button and there is page rank in the toolbar. Even though I am in a secure area and the reply to post pages have all been robot excluded. Also the URl string is reply to post 12345678 etc so a new page.

Ghost Pr is seriously old and Google has mostly stopped showing it.

This is what I mean by how lucky many of us have been to have been around google as it was growing up, and altavista/lycos/alltheweb etc before google

I am not surprised to see Google re-introducing ghost Pr though, especially if they are using trust values as part of their algo. If a site has the agreed level of trust for existing pages, then it makes sense to apply ghost PR to new pages as they have no reason to believe they are not to be trusted.

News pages for example need to have PR assigned instantly if PR (real Pr not toolbar PR) is part of the algo.

I am glad to contribute to knowledge. I have a terrible pain that I am trying to overcome with a new website. The pain is caused by the fact that every single day people die, and those people have an abundance of memories and knowledge. BUT that dies with them and is lost forever.
