Geo IP in SERP is it important?
I wonder how important the location of a server is to SERP in search engine ranking. Some people argued that if the server that host your website is in UK and you are targeting a UK keyword you will do better than if your server is in US and you are targeting a UK keyword.
Most Search engines do use geo IP as part of their algo but I seem to see lots of US hosted sites doing well for UK keywords.
Thanks

To deal just with UK SERPs only, the following is TRUE:
If the domain is .co.uk hosting in the US is equal to hosting in the UK with all the main S/Es.
For a .com hosted in the US, to get good SERPs in UK S/Es is like swimming the channel with your wellies on.
UK (including Northern Ireland) hosting is essential for UK SERPs for non uk domain suffixes.
