Wonder if anyone can advise me on this.

I'm building up a forum based site at the moment, and I have re-posted a few articles from blogs (with credit and link).

As a rule does google penalise you in the rankings if your site contains exact copies of text that appears on another site? I've noticed nothing so far but I'm just wondering if i'm going to find i'm shooting myself in the foot.

I think this would be more of a problems if your whole site was using duplicate content, I don't really think occasional copy and paste can get you banned, but try not to overdo it.

Ok thanks for the advice, I'd say the forum is about 1/4 duplicate content at the moment.
Obviously i'm hoping the duplicate content will bring in more traffic and people to post original stuff.
