Where did you come to the conclusion this had any adverse effect on a site?
Apparently, here are some of the allege factors that could affect your site adversely
* Participating in reciprocal link scheme
* Contents that remains the same without updates for a long time
* Too many links from articles websites or poor link quality
* Links from sites that seemed designed just to sell text ads
* The usual black hat SEO techniques such as hidden text, hidden links, inappropriate redirect etc
* Your site should return over 20,000 keywords when type in Google
* Lack of repeat visits
* Visitors exit your site immediately they got there

Not my conclusion Paul, just something I pickup from the jagger rumour mills, the rationale behind that is that people talk about authority sites so if reference has been made to your site over 20,000 its considered a significant siteOriginally Posted by Paul_KY

Yes, I would stay off any speculation for now. Just remember one thing Google wants to give searchers the best possible results. If you understand your target market and helps Google meets that goal, then you should be fine...a bit of luck and skill helps of course.
