Hi there, I've just come off the phone to someone who was politely bragging that they regularly pass page rank through banners and that they're cleaning up on the SEO front .

Two questions

- can display advertising banners pass page rank?

- can widgets pass page rank?

My SEO schooling tells me text links only pass on page rank and allow for crawling. Banner/widget links are not recognised by crawlers as they are in an iframe. And surely as selling pagerank (i.e links) is frowned on by Google, banners/widgets passing on page rank concept is flawed...

Either way, really appreciate any help/direction.
