I have not used google site map, I have hear horrible things about it besides I am more than happy about site engine coverate of my sites so I see no reason why I should use it

Maybe this problems have not been ironed out but when it was first launched I hear a few webmasters complain about it affecting their ranking or the number of indexed pages negatively, so that sort of discouraged me from using it. But If you do not have a huge site I don't think you really need it anyway.

My site has over 500,000 pages and not all of them are picked up by google, so thought it might be worth a go.

Definitely for a large site like yours the site map tool will be useful, did you find that lots of your pages has not been indexed since using site map tool?

Impressed, I just checked how many pages from your site is indexed by google, its over 200,000

I'm using google sitemap for a new website, it's wordpress based. Used this plugin for the google sitemap. http://www.arnebrachhold.de/2005/06/...rator-v2-final

Google has indexed the website quickly.
