effect of sitewide linking

Just wondering how sitewide link affect sites its pointing to. I have used sitewide links, sometime it boost a site other time it seem to kiill in SERP.

Any ideal why?

I pointed sitewide links from site A to site B
I pointed sitewide links from site A to site C

Site B is doing very well in SERP
Site C is not doing well, its actually seem it is penalised for the anchor text used to link to it from site A

it depends on how you do it. if you use the same linking text on each page gogle may pick up that it is the same content and punish you. Change the wording slightly.
