How much do you need to change to make content unique in the eyes of the search engines? From my experience it is less than you think - a few synonyms here is enough, reorder a few clauses and bob's your uncle. I have also seen my copy ranking well on other sites with just a few changes!!

I think its important to make the distinction between duplicate content on your and duplicate articles on other sites. If its on your site, say two versions of your homepage, that is BAD - if its content on another website - its not going to affect your rankings, unless Google recognises the other piece as original and starts ranking it ahead of your own content.
