A few people have asked me how they can become certified SEO/Internet marketing consultants. I usually use my results to pitch for projects but, how does someone who is not interested in self employment get certifications to convince potential employer that he/she is a qualified Internet marketing consultant?

I went to UNI i know there are online courses but i dont feel like there "credible" to be used. Like Search Engine Optimization SEO Training Courses from Search Engine College

man you should really check out SEO 2020 it is the bomb and i really think it is the future for SEO and other related.

Also University 2020 although i think it is changing at the moment into a new system so you cant join. But get in contact with those guys and you will be on the right track that is for sure.

There are a few trade associations you can become a part of, joining e-consultancy or sma-uk can give you credability but unlike marketing it is a new medium still so we do not have a body such as IDM for a real training certificate such as traditional marketeers would have.

IMHO nothing speaks louder than results you can show.

Perhaps this is the time to set up a new institution where you can get a diploma in SEO?

The DIP-IDM (diploma from the institute of direct marketing) is an internationally recognised and very hard to get diploma. SEO needs something similar.

Other than that I think it is something you have to proove to a future employee.

I have often thought about this but I think for the near future this will remain an open question.

This needs to be set up by those with the knowhow - something that should be a recognised accredited institution!

Other thing is, as TheeCommerceConsultant pointed out - results and portfolios speak volumes....

I never went to Uni, in fact I don't have any formal qualifications at all. I started learning SEO/Online Marketing when I was 17.

As mentioned there are no formal qualifications to become a certified SEO Specialist/Consultant but to be honest as long as your producing the goods, qualifications count for nothing.

The best thing to do is get registered with accredited institute such as SEMPO etc etc.
