Directory How too ?

Im looking to turn one of my PR3 Domains in a directory to earn a little cash on the side (maybe to pay for other links etc) How do i start ?

What Software do i use ?
Can i get the software already made with the category's already installed ?
Whats the best way to promote it ?
Do you offer free listings to start with ?

Just a general how to would be good to run a successful Directory which would earn at least $400 a month (is that possible ?)

Any answers to the above would be great guys.

I think there is a thread on this subject but I can find it
1. decide what software you want to use, some of of the popular directory software: PHPLD, eSyndicat
2. Must direcory software will come with database dump of pre creaed categories, its a BAD idea to use this as your directory will be exactly like thousands of other directories
3. Have a good advert budget or link exchange, directory industry is very competitive
4. Offer free inclusion to draw submission and charge for premium listing

1. Set your goal
2. Do some research in major directories to see how they are structured
3.Rather than having general directory , see if you can come out of something specific.
4.From day one be very strict to add sites.
5.Its all about arranging quality sites according to their topics keep this in your mind always
6.Rather than adding all the categories in hurry rather add some main categories , write proper description what u want in that category.
