Does anyone actually use directories?

apart from SEO people (like me) to get their sites listed and a few links in and maybe a bit of kudos to push their site up in Google...does anybody know any normal people that actually use directories to search for anything?? Most of the folk I ask just say 'Google' or, occasionally, 'Yahoo' or, very very very occassionally, ?MSN'

Or does anybody ever receive decent contacts from good niche directories?

I do received a decent traffic from Dmoz. Most people use the engines you mentioned but there a few people who prefer alternative, one of my client actually prefer Alltheweb as a search engine, a very strange choice I though but that is what he prefers.

I use directories to search for reciprocal link partners almost exclusively. For me there is no other resource nearly as valuable. Depending on the directory, they've done much of the legwork in determining if the sites are on the level and filtered out the crappy sites as well.

Yep, directories provide traffic to webmaster related sites/webmasters.
