Dmoz
I submitted a site on Friday to DMOZ, and it was listed on Monday. It was a quality site, with no hidden agenda and no affiliate links (was a site advertising a hotel in Llandudno).
I've only recently gone back to DMOZ after reading scare stories on Digital Pointless. Personally, from this weekend's speedy inclusion, I'm going to submit more and more.
I just think that the people who are complaining about them on sites like Digital Point are submitting low quality sites full of affiliate links etc.
However, I'm more than willing to be corrected

LiveTech, congratulations on getting listed. I have to say I agree with you with your post.
I still consider DMOZ to be a quality, solid link. I can't say I really care what others think about it.
Yes ok ODP doesn't carry as much weight anymore but it's still a cracking link to have none the less.

Yeah ive always found that Dmoz is fine, the editors are good people and if you speak to them in a normal way they will often guide you to where you are going wrong, most of my sites are listed.. I think once you find a category with a good editor focus on getting more qaulity sites in the same place

it ALL depends on the category you submit to. I have had real problems with DMOZ since stopping being an editor there. I have had my titles changed, my despcriptions changed to be almost meaningless. BUT I have also had my sites included by editors without my submitting them for example.
It is a large beast, and ther is both good and bad.
My philosophy with DMOZ always has been and still is ' do it right, do it once, forget about it'.

Yeah, I can see that being a factor.
I made sure I was as deep as I could go for the submission, and I suppose the editor thought "I have nothing to do, I'll accept it". I generally go as deep as I can for all directories - be them DMOZ or Daves Free Phpld Directory. I'd rather be listed on the front page of "Computer & Internet > Services > Web Design > United Kingdom > Wales" than on page 76 on "Computer & Internet > Services > Web Design".

I have to say that the Welsh portion of DMOZ is superb. As an aside, did you know that all sites can have 2 listings not one? the first can be in generic drilldown, the second in geographic drilldown.

Apparently the guys that edits Wales are red hot, they ensure any Welsh sites is approved immediately, they have zero waiting list for Welsh sites.
