Default Buying a new PC

Hi,

Just thought I'd run this question by the group.

Can you buy a USA PC from the internet and use it in the UK?
What would the difference be? The plug? Internally it must be the same hardware.

Yes, so long as the PSU has switchable voltage (most if not all do)

Worst case would be that you buy a new case/psu(most cases come with a psu)

The US PSU's have the same molded female 3 pin as us, its the part you place in the socket at home thats different.

Why are you purchasing a computer from the US anyway, you have the same selection as we do, if not better here?

I can buy a 1U server from the states for 1/3 the price it would cost me here.

Hardware is cheaper there (and so is software)

An MSDN subscription here is double the price it is there

That makes no sense at all. I can't see why NA prices would be cheaper than Europe, especially with your demand for hardware/software being so high.

consumer demand

population x average spending

any one of a hundred potential reasons.

I don't really care why, it's a fact though.

Not to mention the dollar is at a very low point, for now.

its not that it is just the exchange rate. it is like getting a 1/3 off of it as there is one pound = 1.5 dollars.

The usa corporations are happy to keep our exchange rate high as they can sell a $1000 PC for £1000 and make an extra £400, it is the same with everything a can of coke in the USA costs $0.50 but in the UK £0.50. Importing cola from the USA or europe to the UK is good money as we don't make enough of it over here.
