Hackers are in control of many home PCs
More than one million computers on the net have been hijacked to attack websites and pump out spam and viruses.
The huge number was revealed by security researchers who have spent months tracking more than 100 networks of remotely-controlled machines.

our server was just hijacked earlier this month, and had ddos attacks. used 570 gigs of our bandwith before the hosting place shut our server down.

That is terrible, did you not have the usuall security stuff in place like firwall etc?

yeh we had the usual stuff. i think they found an exploit in the forum software i was using. next forum software i use is going to be custom made so the likelyhood of a similar incident will have to come by some other means.

I see your point, there is probably some security in having a custom build forum software, at least you will know all the potential security hole and close it before it get exploited.
