Post A few dangerous viruses

New Viruses are released daily to cause damage or to infect our computers. Below is a list of a few viruses classed as being the most common in regards to being seen the most or to potentially cause damage. Please note that this is is not a comprehensive list and there are other viruses which have not been mentioned below. Always keep your AntiVirus software up to date at all times.

Trojan.Lodear
This is a Trojan horse that will attempt to download remote files onto your computer. It will inject a .dll file into the explorer.exe process causing issues with your system.

W32.Beagle.CO@mm
This is a mass mailing worm that will lower your security settings. It can delete security related registry keys and can block access to security related websites such as Windows updates or Anti Virus downloads.

Backdoor.Zagaban
This is another type of Trojan horse which allows a compromised computer to be used as a covert proxy. This can also cause poor network performance.

W32/Netsky-P
This is a mass mailing worm which will spread through your email address book.

W32/Mytob-GH
This is another mass mailing worm and also an IRC backdoor Trojan for the Windows platform. You may have come across actions taken by this work as messages sent will have the subject such as, notice of account limitation, Email Account Suspension etc

W32/Mytob-EX
Another mass mailing worm and IRC backdoor Trojan similar in nature to W32-Mytob-GH described above. W32/Mytob-ex runs in the background without you knowing and provides a backdoor which can allow a remote hacker to gain control of your computer. This virus spreads by sending itself to email attachments from your email addresses so when you forward an email the virus goes with it.

W32/Zafi-B
This is a peer to peer and email worm that copies itself to the Windows system folder located on your C Drive. It will name itself as a randomly named .exe file. The .exe file is excuted so the worm can test for an internet connection by attempting to connect to sites such as Google.

Please note there are lots of other dangerous viruses out there. I recommend you visit Anti Virus sites to gain further knowledge.

Good information. Microsoft just released some fixes, and it`s always worth keeping up to date with updates and installing them immediately, especially the critical ones.

For that reason i am using AVG antivirus alongwith ZoneAlarm. AVG updates itself frequently so no more worries i think so.

I think I should not boast too much, Its my 3rd year now without using anti virus and I have not had any virus.
I used to use Nortons but I really get frustrated with all the additional loads it ads to my computer not to talk of those endless loading of updates etc. BUT I do not allow anyone else to use my computer. In the days when I used to allow my children on my computer, I had viruses and other nasty stuff.

Temi
You may already have a virus or a bug on your machine right now. If you don't want to install anti virus, then you should at least perform an online scan to check.

I think Norton provide a free online virus checker

Great post gkd i am very fed up with the Trojan as my computer was infected by the virus and i used avg but unable to remove them. Till date sometimes while scanning it shows infected by Trojan.

Really these viruses are very tricky and make a fuss around our system and network making the environment slow and panic.

So, now i am using Nod32 anti virus and seems this is working quite well for me.

Hi Amit

Have you tried booting your machine into safe mode and then running the AntiVirus scan?
