I just downloaded the shopping cart for my site. I consider myself fairly savvy, net-wise. But, I am totally lost. I designed and built my site from the ground up - it is all html, and I thought I knew what I was doing. I have no idea of where to even start with the shopping cart! Am I completely stupid, or did I miss something in the instructions?
I DO understand about uploading to my server, I understand about setting up directories and sub-directories. But the read-me file is so much gibberish to me. HELP? ![]() |

Please read the user manual.

I'm sorry, but that link told me nothing much. It sent me to a another thread with an 'about' the manual, and it didn't appear to be complete. Is there somewhere here on the forum where the user's manual is posted in it's complete form?

I think that would be the best if i direct you to this form. If your server fulfill the requirements I will install the script in the next 24 hours.

I must seem like a total dunce. I thought I understood my site, and the server it was based on, as well. I really appreciate the help. Thank you!

Hello, I got your email, but because you didn't provide any database related information i couldn't start installing the script
I don't know if your hosting provider sent you the necessary detail or you got a cpanel login. The point is that we need to have a database, where BossCart will store the products etc. If you need assistance for the cpanel or plesk in order to create a database, please let me know. Thanks Last edited by Bagi Zoltán; 05-16-2008 at 09:30 AM. |

I'm not sure I know what a cpanel is. I don't have a database, that I know of - haven't created one, or used one thus far with my site. Everything has been straight html - no scripts, no sql, no vbasic, no style sheets, nothing. If I need to create a database, or if I need further access from my host provider, let me know, and I'll get it from them.

Lady,
What do you use when you access your server.... CPanel is a user interface that usually provided by your hosting provider if your using a Linux/Unix server. There are different variations such as DirectAdmin and Plesk. I think it would help Bagi to know if your using a Linux or Windows server. KP |

You know, I really don't know! I know how to get into my admin area to administer my site, but other than that, I don't know anything about the server at all! They just gave me my log in and password and left everything else up to me. It was a totally blank slate. There wasn't any 'we help you set it up' or 'punch in your preferences' type software. There wasn't anything at all. I was given ftp access, and told to go to it. So, I built a lot of it from scratch, and a lot of it with FrontPage (I got lazy!) later on. But no scripts or flash. No cgi or anything. I'm kind of basic in my knowledge of webdesign, so I didn't try to get fancy.
I double checked their site - it is a Windows server and this is from their ad: "... ASP scripting, ASP.NET, PHP 4.3 and more." Does that help? |

Hi, well the server software helped a lot, because unfortunatly windows server couldn't provide optimal enviroment for the JV script. It is able to operate, but for instance the search engine friendly module must be turned off, though I think this is one of the strongest point of the script compering it with other free softwares. If you have the willingness I would suggest you a really professional hosting service which use Apache as server software.
Thanks |
