help with editing template

can someone point me in the right direct into what files contain most of the important template code

i am trying to edit the left side panel but im going insane trying to find where to start

Basically you may find the template in the /templates/revolution folder. The index.php contains the html code, and in the /templates/revolution/css/ folder you will find the css which controls the styles. There is one more thing. In the /templates/js/ folder you may find a javascript file called hover.js. This file controls the gradual hover effect of the left sideblock and of the YOUR BAG in the top.

k well i reskined it did a new logo + shopping bag and added a nice favicon

also i did some minor css updates but i still cant find the direct code to like edit the text of the side panel itself

well for starters i wanted to move the whole left side closer to the left.
redesigning a template isnt as easy as it seems i am not sure which css code is for that part.

also i wanted to rename the sections of the left side

Sorry for the late response, but didn't have a free minute till this time.
In order to rename the Online shop block please paste this URL string into as webadress yoursite.com/administrator/index2.php?option=com_modules&client=&task=editA&i d=35
and hit enter. Modifying the title input form you may rename this module. To edit the name of the Main menu please visit this URL yoursite.com/administrator/index2.php?option=com_modules&client=&task=editA&i d=3

In order to change the position of the left section you need to edit the style information of the div id="leftcol" html tag.
Please look for this part of the template css

#leftcol
{
	float:left; width:190px;
}

and insert the

position:absolute;
left:10px

so it will be

#leftcol
{
	float:left; width:190px;
        position:absolute;
        left:10px
}

Of course you may customize the position of the block editing the 10px value.
