no links showing in product cart

I have installed boss cart successfully, can login in to admin and even add product, also can see the main site. the problem I have is when I click on a product in the online shop catalog. even the included products that come with the store... I get a 404 page.
I am using the free version bosscartjv1.1
I use xampp as my test server all of the other carts I have installed work fine I do not want to spend money on web hosting or a cart until I test and get use to using something first.
But what would cause this problem of the error 404 page ? thanks for any info that might help this problem.

Good morning,
As you described the problem I assume that the mod_rewrite is not enabled in the xampp or if it is enabled you will need to rename the .htaccess.txt to .htaccess. As default option mod_rewrite is not loaded, if you need a good guide have a look at this resource.
