To submit your site in google your site must meet with all the qualification which suggested in google webmaster tool and your submission must be in proper category.

I've never submitted a site in my life...

and trust me, I get quite a few views. There is really not much point in submitting sites to search engines any more, maybe back in the 90's, but not any more.

Making your presence known on the internet is more important than submitting to search engines. Once Google notices you are there (from the various inbound links), it will spider your site and index it...

.. submitting to search engines, Meh... it's not worth the effort.
