I am sure you have all heard that Google is going to allow brand and trademark bidding again on adwords - still not allowed t use them in the title or descriptions though.

Yes, if you are into affiliate marketing then this should be well know already to many.
However, Merchants are still not allowing affiliates to market their products using their brand name just because Google are allowing it.

But they won't mind you bidding on their competitors' brand and keywords : )

why's google against brand adverts? Is it because they impede relevant adwords ads or something?

They are worried about IP infringements I guess - normally they don't give a t*/s about this though.
