I often think of the media as being the new "priests".

In the old days the church was the centre of the community, and this gave the organisation sweeping powers over most nations. In the past if there was a substantial dispute between the church and a nation the people could be easily persuaded to protest/overthrow the government. (matter of historic fact).

Nowdays we only protest and take into account what the media bring to our attention and campaign. The media giants are the unseen, most powerful force in many countries today.

So far the internet has remained vastly uncontrolled due to its nature, indiviudals can promote their views online at little cost. It is perhaps the first chink in these media companies armour.
