Probably two reasons:-
- Not every employee knows everything
- For ones that know the most, Non Disclosure Agreements will be signed.
It's obvious, I have my employees sign them when they start working on certain projects, it's done to protect my financial interest. If they share what they've done with a competitor before it's ready, or the inner workings of something, then they will be disciplinary proceedings. I'm sure I'm not the only one on this site to do the same, and it's particularly useful in the software fields.
