Not .edu, but I've managed to bag myself a couple of .ac.uk links (which must be similarly liked). How? Well, I attended university and friendly with a few of the PHD students there, who link to my stuff. Plus I'm still active on the forums of one of their clubs.
.edu sites can have forums on them, so it may be worthwhile doing a search for them, as well as .edu blogs (whilst I was in university, I hosted my blog on my .ac.uk domain name. For one there was a hell of a lot of space for the time, the second was that it was so easy to set up).
However my advice is not to worry about them too much. I generally think that - unless you know where to look and you have mates in high places - it's pretty much a fruitless search.
If your content's good enough, and relevent, then governmental/education sites will find and link to you (specially techie articles - they usually get referenced in papers. My university put my thesis online for a year, so all the links I talked about got some nice PR juice).
